The Problem With Most Chinchilla Feed

Most commercial chinchilla feed was never built from scratch for chinchillas. It started as a rabbit formula or a generic herbivore base, then got slapped with a chinchilla label. The calcium levels, fiber structure, and protein targets were set for a different species entirely.

Chinchillas are not small rabbits. Their molars grow continuously and need specific fiber structure to wear properly. Their gut biology is uniquely sensitive. Their dense fur coat requires targeted nutrition that generic herbivore formulas were never designed to deliver.

We grind on larger screens to keep the hay strands intact, so the fiber actually functions in your chinchilla's gut and wears down molars properly, instead of passing through as dust. Fiber structure, not just fiber percentage, is what supports healthy cecum fermentation, consistent chewing behavior, and correct dental wear.

Omega-3 and Omega-6 Balance for Skin and Coat
