Niblee Orchard Grass is a soft, leafy forage with a naturally sweet aroma that small herbivores instinctively gravitate toward. Harvested at peak maturity from trusted West Coast fields, it is naturally sun-cured and hand-packed loose into boxes to preserve fiber structure, freshness, and full plant integrity. Every box is filled by hand, not machine-compressed, so the long, delicate strands stay intact from our facility to your animal's bowl. Never compressed into tight plastic packaging. Never warehoused long-term.
Orchard grass offers a finer texture and slightly softer chew than Timothy, making it ideal for rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas that prefer a gentler mouthfeel or benefit from a less coarse fiber source. It is an excellent primary hay for sensitive eaters and a valuable rotation forage for animals that thrive on variety.
We never use dusty sweepings, previously pelletized hay, hay meals, or reprocessed forage. Only clean, long-fiber Orchard grass, hand-selected and hand-packed to maintain its natural softness and structural quality.
Why Choose Niblee Orchard Grass
- Soft, leafy texture with a naturally sweet aroma
- Hand-packed loose into boxes, never machine-compressed
- Long intact strands to support healthy digestion
- Gentle chew resistance for balanced dental wear
- Low dust and minimal fines
- Grown and sun-cured in low-humidity Western climates
- Fresh boxed, not aged in warehouses
Balanced and Gentle by Design
Orchard grass delivers structured fiber in a more delicate form. The fine leaf-to-stem balance encourages consistent intake while still supporting gut motility and natural chewing behavior. For animals that are selective, aging, or simply prefer a softer forage, Orchard grass provides comfort without sacrificing biological function.
How to Feed
Provide unlimited access daily. Orchard grass can serve as a primary forage or rotate alongside Timothy for texture variety. Replace flattened or soiled hay regularly. Store in a cool, dry place to maintain freshness.
A Note on Seasonal Variation
Hay is a living product. Color, texture, and aroma shift with each harvest. Wetter springs bring greener cuts. Drier summers bring firmer stems. Every field's soil, rainfall, and sun exposure leave their mark on what grows.
What stays consistent is the integrity of the cut, the natural sun-curing process, and the long-strand structure your animal needs. When you open a new box from a different harvest and it looks a little different than your last one, that is not inconsistency. That is real hay, grown for your animal, not processed for a shelf.
The Niblee Promise
Kurt and I source and hand-pack every box here at the Niblee Farm. No factory. No warehouse. No middleman. If you have a question about where this hay was cut or when it was boxed, you can ask the people who put it there.
